The awareness that comes from practicing the way that we do vs. the “just make everything burn” is so useful because then if something is a little bit off, we’ll notice it sooner, before we injure something, and we have tools to use to rebalance things.

There were times where I thought, am I really not gonna be able to walk easily? Am I gonna have to have every joint replaced? And still maybe not be able to walk around and do things? Pain can be a scary thing because you do wonder, is it ever going to go away? And the fact that it has gone away just from Pilates, and what we do in the classes…. It’s like, why doesn’t everyone do this??

I started working with Alexis ten years ago, after sustaining an injury that left me unable to do a lot of the physical activities I’d previously enjoyed; what I thought would be a brief interlude in which I “fixed the problem” has turned into a profoundly sustaining practice of learning and relearning my body, aided and encouraged by Alexis’ incredibly rigorous and sensitive understanding of how our physical, emotional, and intellectual selves work with, through, around, and sometimes against each other. She is a singularly skilled healer, with a wide range of tools which she integrates in thoughtful and creative ways. I trust her totally, and am deeply grateful to her for the nuanced worlds she continues to open up for me. Also — she’s funny and weird in all the right ways, and spending time with her is a pleasure.

You guys have done such a fabulous job curating an experience for better health.

I’d like to thank you also for the genius mobility work you have been sharing with us. The head and neck release videos keep my migraines in line. Amazing, huh? Also I just love how Alyssa’s classes start out so innocently and then you find yourself doing things you had no idea you could do—- and she has us laughing the whole time!

Alexis is the smartest and most caring instructor I’ve worked with. She knows how the body works and how to put her knowledge into words that I can work with. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and as a result, she helps me to keep refining my performance. She is caring and is always thinking about her clients, sending helpful information and research in response to questions asked or topics discussed during our sessions. I’ve worked with Alexis for almost eight years and can say with sincerity that she has changed how I think about my body – and my life.

After quadruple bypass surgery in 2021, I heavily credit Pilates for the full and successful recovery I enjoyed. Restoration of locomotion, including ascension of stairs, came soon after the operation. I wholeheartedly credit Pilates for strengthening my core, and facilitating flexibility, range of motion, and general stamina required for restoration of normal physical functions. So, thank you Alyssa!
